Brainstorming for Desk Calendar Project

The first idea I had was to display different events that occur in Raleigh every month by using photography. The image I have above is of the ferris wheel, because the state fair every year is in october.

The second idea I had was to display the weather of every month.

This last idea is my favorite, the calendar above is also the same for the year 1949. For every different month there will be a different year and the illustration will be of the fashion of that time period.

My timeline is about how movie posters have progressed and changed graphically over the past few decades. Also how the printing press and other inventions and movements of art have influenced these designs. I have posted am image of the movie posters from the 1950s. Each decade will have its own illustration, also I have not yet put words on the illustration but there will also be a brief comment about how these posters were influenced by the different movements.

Movie Poster Timeline

My timeline is focusing on how movie posters have changed since the very beginning. This far I have found that movie posters have become a lot more complex just in the past few years. The difference between movie posters in the 80’s is extremely different from the movie posters now. The basic format for the posters has stayed the same but they are way more graphically appealing. For my timeline I am going to have a lot of images of different movie posters over the past years. I have attached a tentative sketch of what my timeline will look like.

I particularly like these business cards that I chose because they have a wide range of play. Some are very fun and animated but others are more professional and little more sophisticated. In addition to these business cards I also found another website that has a lot of different ideas for business cards. Different companies can also purchase these business cards from the website.

I think I finally got the hang of Illustrator!!! It was a lot of hard work but I really like this picture. Although illustrator was really frustrating in the beginning I actually like it a lot now!

In these two picture I was just trying to get the hang of Illustrator. It was difficult to get used to the pen tool but I think with a little more practice I will get the hang of it.

The Final Athletic Banquet Invitation

These two are the final two designs the bottom design has an outline around the horse and the top one does not have a outline. I had to go into illustrator and make redraw the logo so the "P" was white and not black, it was hard work but in the end it was definitely worth it. I personally like the top one the best.

Athletic Banquet Invitation

I was asked to make the invitation for the athletic banquet. When I began working on it I decided to make three separate designs so ,Wendy, the athletic coordinator could decide which one she liked the best. For the second one down the intentions were to make the "P" white and the background black but I had to get the actual authorization to the logo from Wendy, so for right now it is just the jpg.

I just love how true this statement is! Good Typography is Invisible/ Bad Typography is Everywhere. It seems like everywhere we go even on crampus we can find bad posters or bad brochures that where either done by inexperienced people or someone just didn't take there time. It is so important to have good typography. You can get your message across by just using good typography and not even adding pictures or commentary. These two designs combine both text and image to display a hand made and postmodern style. These two designs also explore the theme of self identity.

For this first design I went through many different processes to integrate the image and text in a proper way. For the second design the main challenge was deciding how to show the text. I knew I wanted the part of the quote about the middle to literally be in the middle. I went through many different arangmennts to figure out what was right for the design.

This was the first design that I came uo with and then I quickly realized that the clutter of the eyes, lips and the drawing was too much. Then I played around with a lot of different things and came up with the design below.

This was the first process of the second design. I changed the word scary because I realized that the viewer would not be able to read it clearly. I also rearanged the text and changed the sizing of a few of the letters to make the words "MIDDLE COUNTS MOST" stand out.

This is the final work for the second design!

Composition and Line Project

The first step of this project was to arrange a variety of objects and look through the view finder window and draw what what you see in a 3" square. All the objects had to be drawn in 3-D, and also all the drawings had to exit the viewfinder on all 4 sides. Then repeat this step until I got sixteen 3" squares.

The next step of this project was to narrow down the drawings to 9 of the best and most unique ones. Then to examine them and look for any of gestalts theories. To make sure that there is not any repetition in any of the drawings or any one drawing that attracts the eye more than the others.

After I chose my final 9 drawings when I was observing it I realized that there was a repetition of pencils going the same direction in 3 of the drawings. Then I switched the bottom left corner one and the one to the right of it and realized that, that took care of my problem.

Then I had to trace the images on a light table to finalize the project in black pen.

SHAPE

The purpose of this second project was for the design to establish a wholeness between the figure-ground relationship. All the designs began with a 4-inch square of black construction paper and then cut up into different shapes. This first design is non-objective and the observer will not recognize the original form of the square.

This second design is an abstract design in which the observer will not be able to recognize the square.

The purpose of this last design is similiar to the first two. The design is non-objective but still containing the essence of the square. My goal in all three designs was to use both complexity and variety to grab the viewers attention.

Mark Project

The objective of the mark project was to exlplore the possibilities of figure-ground relationship and mark making. While standing I was supposed to make non-objective marks but not just random marks but using my name as

inspiration.

My purpose was to make the mood of each design diverse. I wanted to explore different possibilities. I aso wanted my designs to explore a full range of approaches to mark making.
